Find A Grave - Don't use their information
FindaGrave volunteer Chuck Black refuses to change the correct spelling of my mother's maiden name. Ironically he is a cousin whose mother had the same maiden name. The entire memorial is listed as van Brocklin rather than Van Brocklin (or VanBrocklin) with no source document. He has made numerous errors in the family information including a child attributed to my 2nd great maternal grandparents who never even existed. I can't get that removed from the information. For whatever reason this individual seems to enjoy weaving myths including one derogatory remark about my great aunt's ex husband and yet had listed a person with a similar name.

My name is Char Wilcox and I have ancestors from the Ooten line. I wanted to try and communicate with someone who left a flower on my ancestor's grave, but can't because I don't remember my password, could you please assist in this.

Often flowers and memorials that are left on graves are not from individuals that have anything to do with the memorials are families they are left on. This function is a free-for-all, and like it or not, that’s how Find a Grave has set it up. If you can’t remember your password, try logging in using the email you used when you signed up, then choose the option for “forgot password” or “reset password.” You should receive an email to lead you through this process and then you will have access back into your account.

Update by user Nov 30, 2019

Ancestry continues to raise membership prices. Since findagrave is part of them now, I'd say 1/4 of my annual dues is a waste.

Update by user Nov 30, 2019

Too much information on this site to use for genealogy.

If it’s been longer than a month since you sent the memorial edit request, send an email explaining the problem to: edit@findagrave.com Explain the problem BRIEFLY. Show the suggested edit, the date it was sent, to whom and any responses.

If they won’t respond to you and help out, or they refer you to the general Edit process ( which you already know about because you submitted Edits), or they don’t respond at all, delete all your memorials and your account and refused to do business with a company who clearly doesn’t give a crap about doing things the right way, or your input to make things better. I know, it’s not the answer I wouldn’t want to receive either, but it seems to be the norm with their customer service which isn’t “customer oriented” at all.

I was trying to open a free FAG account and I mistakenly put the wrong email address. How can I correct this problem? I did go in to reopen an new account but it is telling me to conform my account by email. What do I do? Sad

You don’t have to confirm an email address if you don’t want to. If you used an incorrect email address to sign up, and the system sent you a message to confirm it but you don’t want to use it, then delete that email.

Because you have not responded, that account will not be opened associated with that email address, which should end your problem.

If you still want an account, sign up using the proper email address you want to use, and a new password for the account. Make sure to log out and try to log back in to see if it works.

Even though the website tells you you can set up a password with special characters in it, like the “&” symbol, that is not the case. Simply set up a password with a mixture of capital and lowercase letters and numbers.

Do not use commonly used words or phrases for a password.

F.A.G. Support has been notified of this problem and supposedly it was escalated, however, based on other problems I’ve seen this may or may not be the case.

Submit an Edit for the problem to the memorial manager through the “suggest edits” section from the memorial in question, wait 30 days and if they don’t respond and/or resolve this, send an email to: edit@findagrave.com Referred to this problem as an “inappropriate biography”, and memorial issues. Briefly explain the problem. If their response back is to submit an edit via the suggest edit section, meaning they didn’t read your email and are just blowing you off or stalling you, resend a copy of the email back to them using the same address above and include the data showing when you submitted the edit to get things changed.

Click on the FindAGrave logo and go to the homepage. Type in the name of the person you’re searching for, and the cemetery location you believe they are buried in.

The Cemetery Location field must be entered as city, county, state and country. The actual name of the cemetery at this point is irrelevant so don’t try to search on it . Example: say you’re searching for John Doe, and you think he’s buried in he’s cemetery in Denver. Type in “Denver, CO” and a list of possible cemetery locations should show below.

Pick the one you want to look in and enter. You can cross check a search by entering in the name of the person you were looking for, and the city and state do you think they’re buried in into a Google search engine.
