I have been a member of findagrave for over a year. I never put up any photos of other families' headstones, only those related to me. I volunteered to take photos for others when I could. When I wanted to add a memorial for my great uncle, a WWII vet, I found that someone unrelated already did. This was a contributor only caring about numbers. There are many of them, we all know it. God forbid you bring it up in the forum or those nutjobs who sit on the computer all day staring at graves will cyberstalk you and turn you into a devil.

I requested from this numbers contributor the transfer of my great uncles' memorial. I know it is "out of the guidlines" but he never married and had no children. Why should a total stranger be in charge of his memorial? I patiently waited beyond the 30 days but never even got a reponse from the high number contributor. The admns wouldn't help me because its out of guidelines. I have so much info I wanted to add. They told me to use the "SAC" link. No, that is not good enough! I want to be the one in charge of the memorial so I can add the info myself. What is 1 memorial for a total stranger to someone who has over 10,000 contributions?

They say findagrave is not a genealogy site. Oh yeah, then how come it's constantly mentioned in and advertised in genealogy magazines? These numbers contributors look up obituaries and add them before the deceased is even in the ground. I took down all my memorials and will find another site to put them on. A friend of the family asked me after their loved one died to set up the memorial for them. Guess what? I couldn't. That same high number contribtuor put it up without even getting a photo of the stone (since there isn't even one yet). My friend is outraged and is warning everyone about this site. This site is no longer what it was intended for and no one seems to care about the loved ones left behind. They say the dead have no privacy, but guess what? Their family members do. Totally disgusting.

I completely agree with you. Many people on *** do genealogy work on this website which is fun until some lowlife comes along!

It is also owned by a genealogy site called ancestryDOT.com.

I am quite tired of some of the evil people on this website who steal memorials who own a bunch of backdated empty memorials with no information! ...... These thieving criminals who call themselves contributors with HUGE NUMBERS comes along and enters all my information to his/her backdated memorial which has no NO INFORMATION!

and then these lowlife claim mine was a duplicate.

COMPLETE CHEATS..... Some of these ignominious' need to get a life!

Your message is absolutely 100% correct. Please know that you are one of hundreds who are having the same problem with this website.

Some of the F.A.G.

people are very cruel without a lick of sense and completely morally corrupt! Everyone should maintain their own family memorials no matter how far back they go in time.

I agree too! BUT, I have transferred to families who then forget about the memorial and never do anything with it at all.

Even when I find more information on them and try to suggest they add it, if it isn't one you can go in and do yourself, and no one ever answers me. That happens a lot. Sometimes i don't transfer, just depends.

But I would like some of my family too, so I understand. Find a grave has control of some of mine and ignore me when I ask for them.

Excerpt from BBB website: BBB Rating C & Recent complaint to the BBB: this company published my son's headstone and grave site without permission and with incorrect information and refuses to remove it.

on june 10 2013 I was made aware that a picture of my dead son's headstone and gravesite were on a website called find a grave with the wrong information i wasn't even his mother according to this website, also my husbands parents, grandparents and his baby cousin grave sites and headstones were on there. At no time did I or any member of my family EVER give this website or anyone from it permission to post them. I contacted the company and the person who posted it and they refuse to take it off.

f.a.g. it Tipton's Response: (Not sure what Catholicism has to do with it, as we have thousands of Catholic burial locations registered. Most family members appreciate having a place to pay their respects to their loved ones.)

I'm sorry you've had such rotten experiences with Find A Grave that you have taken all of your relatives off of it; I know of at least 2 people who don't care how closely related I am to the deceased person, they won't trn. my loved ones to me and I've just had to live with it.

I am missing 5 family members that this person flat out refuses to trn. to me, although she did add some information that I submitted to her (but didn't give me credit for it). I figure that, in the end, I'd rather have the information for my loved one on their memorial; I can always leave a "token" letting people know that the info came from me, but I can't spend all my time being angry at this person when I have other family members to research for my family tree. It's really sad that there are people like that out there and that the powers that be in Find A Grave choose not to do anything about it, but I've gotten much more from this site than being upset and angry about my loved ones that are under the control of a ***.

With any luck, that person will burn out and become inactive, then you can reclaim your family members. I've found about 500 family members in the past 3 1/2 yrs. who mean alot to me and I don't know how long I have, but will continue to care for them until I join them in Paradise, if I'm found worthy. At that point, it won't matter any more to me about arguing about my memorials, as I have already found someone who will take care of them if I pass away before she does.

I'll be with them in Paradise, as I mentioned, and that will be better than any memorials I could ever write, don't you think? I hope this helps you out a little bit, at least.

Take care and God Bless. I am not leaving my name due to fear of retribution!!

At one time I was the webmaster for the VFW in Bismarck Mo. when I transferred my VFW membership I added the names of many veterans buried in local cemetery's that the VFW honored each memorial day.

It wasn't that I went out and copied the information from the head stones, it was just I had that information entered in the web site I was handling and it was but a matter of coping and pasting. over the years since I done that I have transferred (upon request) many of the graves that I entered, and I am still transferring them after seven years.

What about contributors that have died or become inactive/ unreachable. One person has taken photos and created many memorials of cemeteries in my area but according to f.a.g.

Her email does not work. It doesn't look like she's been active for a while. My grandfather put his tombstone up long before he died to mark his plot. She created a memorial for him before he even died.

I would like to be in charge of my grandfathers memorial but she has no email. I am frustrated and angry about this situation...

I have had some situations like yours and have gone ahead and sent an email to the "edit" tab, requesting that the memorial be transferred. I've had luck in that someone, albeit a Find A Grave administrator or a friend of the inactive contributor, has taken over care of the memorials and transferred the memorial to me.

I think you should give it a try, letting them know it is your grandfather. If his memorial isn't transferred to you within 30 days, send an email to *** admin., citing your grandfather's name, ***# and cemetery, etc. I really wish you the very best of luck.

Take care. Abbie Normal ,)

Completely Agree! The people behind F.A.G.

are malicious, despicable bullies with nothing better to do than post disrespectful and rude comments about people's deceased loved ones.

They even joke about it. They are low-life ***!

Your complaint is one of many involving members in the numbers game. I have seen f.a.g.

members taking pics of temporary markers so they can be the first to create a memorial they also search newspapers for obituaries in order to add to their numbers they are feeding off of the dead...they are living zombies and they and jim tipton are DISGUSTING! Be satisfied with the fact that you discovered the evil side of f.a.g.

before you had invested more time and expense. The only person profiting from your and the living zombies work is jim tipton.

I havent had problems with memorials, I have added information to plenty of memorials that were maintained by other people and they add the information and made corrections, also added full obituaries on behalf of our family. I've also added images and virtual flowers.

Findagrave has been a wonderful tool as well, I am currently working on my family tree and without volunteers going to Cemeteries in different states I would be very limited in my searches and verification processes.

I agree. This has been my experience.

I have been working on my family tree since Oct 2010 and have been involved with Find A Grave since 12/2010. I've been able to find many family members because of the efforts of members in other states who created memorials for my ancestors I'd been seeking. Many of the volunteers have turned out to be relatives of mine, which has led to many wonderful relationships. I don't know anything about what the people in the previous comments are talking about.

However, I have a hard time believing that a person's surviving relative could not have a memorial of their loved one removed if they didn't want it on this site. I have removed one at the request of relatives as it was the right thing to do; it was a question of morality, not numbers.

Guest

Not sure if anyone has tried this but if the memorials of your relatives are that important to you and you want to take control of the memorial then create a new one and then sponsor it.

Sounds good on the surface but they don't care about that. They will still delete your entry and then ban you from the site.
