Two years latet

After two years I finally got find aastaastzs grave to remove my immediate family from their data base. Hosanna.Find a grave is a nightmare. They take photos of deceased family members. Then their experts construct a poor family tree with all sorts of errors and paster the info all over the net. Find a grave sucks bigtime.

An upsetting shakedown scheme

They have listed my uncle's burial place in the wrong cemetery. This would be upsetting enough but to add insult to injury, to even bring this to their attention I would have to pay a membership fee. This is a shakedown.

Find a grave sucks

Original review updated by user Mar 13, 2022
I have been banned from Find A Grave for provoking a fight with one of their top contributors who took over the memorials I made for my parents and infant son. The woman refused to turn the memorials back over to me. Furthermore what started out as a memorial turned into a genealogical junkyard after this top contributor got done with it. Most of the research was inaccurate adding 1st cousins with the same name and roughly the same age. Secondly I do not like the idea of strangers poking around in my family tree - especially if the information is wrong. Find a grave support is useless. They take the side of the contributor and I am the one who gets banned for confronting this person.

User's recommendation: Stay away from the site. It will only cause you grief.

Find A Grave - Scam: Misleading Info & Invasion of privacy.
Find A Grave - Scam: Misleading Info & Invasion of privacy.
FindAGrave lures unsuspecting people to the site who have just lost a loved one. FindAGrave entices these individuals to create a "free" online virtual memorial. Once the memorial is created the individuals who created it are banned. Next FindAGrave has one of their major contributors man the Memorial. They in turn copy all personal data, catalogue it, then send it off to their Salt Lake City Headquarters to be used in conjunction with some of their other endeavors - most likely marketing i.e. robo calls in addition misleading sales literature.

User's recommendation: Avoid this site. It will only cause you grief. If you need more proof do a google search FindAGrave complaints.

How does Find A Grave "lure" or "entice" people to create memorials? As to the rest, well, let's just say, it's what comes out of the south end of a bull walking north.

GPS inside graveyard directions are incorrect

Set GPS at grave. Walk away from that grave. I want to find that grave from the GPS I just set from the other side of the cemetery and the directions on how to find that grave again using the GPS I set doesnt take me back to that grave. It is way off the mark.

some long times who hangout there day after day are so miserable and cranky, and extremely pompous arrogant that they need to be banned. AND they need to seek some emotional help. FDAG is a great site.

I was transfer the wrong memorial I'd. I am related to Elizabeth Schultz id# 10616**** and they transferred me someone else's grave. I am really disappointed with their customer service and attention to detail and the length of time to correct the issue. Sherry

User's recommendation: Have a customer service number that has a findagrave employee working at that can actually help. This email only is to time consuming and clean to difficult to get a acceptable outcome.

Will not remove my name from deceased’s bio

My name listed in bio of deceased person's site without my permission and the manager will not remove it.This person is not my relative and they do not have my permission to put my name as a contributor in the bio. The manager dream Weaver will not respond to dozens of attempts to get them to remove it. Find a grave will not respond either. They are violating the law.

User's recommendation: Stay away from this app!!

Remove my name completely from the bio of Maddox Jones born 2013 died 2021 in Georgia, USA. I did not give consent to have my name published to that memorial site. I am not related to that person.

They won't reply to my message.

Someone posted an incorrect picture at my uncle's page. The message to the person who posted it went unanswered, so then I messaged Find a Grave. They also have not responded.

User's recommendation: Don't bother to try to get customer service from Find a Grave.

Strangers create memorials without family approval

I have been researching genealogy for over 20 years. The information available via Find a Grave is usually in Ancestry. My family is upset because my relatives' (including my father and brother) private family cemetery, located on private property (we have the deed) and owned by the family for almost 100 years was entered by a stranger without permission. This person is an author who lives in another state. She photographed the headstones and created memorials. She even listed my very alive mother as deceased because her name is on a double headstone with my dad. Then, she ignored requests to transfer those memorials from various family members. Find A Grave will not intervene on all of the memorials because aunts, uncles, and cousins are not within 4 degrees of relationship. She is a stranger who committed a crime to access the cemetery! She has thousands of memorials. I doubt she is related to many of them. I grew up with these people and loved them. Find a Grave should require memorials to only be created by a family member.

User's recommendation: Complain and Keep Complaining.

This is so true. I am sorry that this has happened to you, Brenda.

I have had the same woman persistently taking my memorials, people who are directly related to me and managing them, adding to her bio that she accepted to care for the memorials. That's a lie, no one said she could accept care. They should ask for permission. I really liked Find a Grave.

This happened once before with the same woman, so I deleted my account and started a new one, adding my memorials again and it has happened again. Hopefully, things get resolved for both you and me.

#1935020

They did the same to my mothers headstone. Took a picture without consent and put it online.

My mothers burial was private and we even kept obituary offline. These *** come along and take a picture and put it online. That is an invasion of privacy.

So now I keep watching to see if they do it again. I will take legal action.

@PissedConsumer1935020

They do not need consent to post your family photos as long as they took the photos. If you do not own the property then it is called public domain. The AG ruled this, one does not own a grave and the owner may or may not delete it.

Find A Grave information on memorials can not be trusted as truth.

I agree with the statement above in reference to Mary E. Payne and BlueJay. I am retired from the Smithsonian Institute with a Masters Degree in DNA Analysis. I am Mr. Kidd (who wrote the item above) second cousin on his fathers side. BlueJay states that my grandparents (Robert and Sarah Kidd) lived in a small town south of Louisville because she has a census that shows it. What she is not aware of is that anyone that is at that address on April 1st and staying for a month or so (reguardless if they own a home someplace else) is counted at the residence they were at on April 1st. My grandparents were staying at my fathers home with us because my mother was gravely ill and my dad needed some extra help. Their main and permanent residency was in East Bernstadt Ky. It is incorrect information like this that Find A Grave allows to go on that makes the sight very unreliable in its information. Other information that Mary E. Payne had been a supposed account of one of our relatives traveling across Cumberland Gap in the mid to late1800s and seeing Daniel Boone's initials carved in a tree. Having worked for years with the Smithsonian I find this hard to believe as 1) Any such historical relic of that type would have been removed long ago and 2) It has been long told that this legend as a myth as no such carvings has ever been established. The best family research sites around are 1) Ancestory 2) MyHeritage and 3)FamilySearch. But even with these sites, it is important to double check any information you find and then, double check it again. I can not begin to tell you how many complaints I have heard over the years concerning Find A Grave. As stated above, BEWARE!

User's recommendation: BEWARE! There are other more reliable websites.
