502 Bad Gateway

Find A Grave - 502 Bad Gateway
I have been trying to get into the findagrave.com website for an hour now, so I can see a family member's memorial. All I get is 502 Bad Gateway! What's going on with findagrave.com. Normally this is an awesome website to find information about family members; leave flowers and a message for a loved one; or even create a new memorial for a recently lost loved one. Did the website get deleted?

Rebuttal to Memory Keeper #4723****

memory keeper 4723**** messaged me stating i needed to make better photographs... I take offense to this as I have never received a complaint in the past.. MK 4723**** provided no way to contact her .... I would have gladly returned to the grave and re-photographed... Please contact her about this matter... I considered the message rude... I have been doing genealogy for about 10 years, yesterday I decided to use Find A Grave site. I looked up my mother, imagine my surprise when I found someone had placed a stranger on their memorial stating this was their daughter I am an only child, and I am very much...

Maintenance of Memorial's

Find A Grave There has been no response to suggested edits submitted on, 10 Nov 2019, for memorial ID: 4402****, maintained by Susan Clemons, contributor 4694****. On Memorial ID 4402****, Spouse, Memorial ID 4402****, incorrectly listed as Parent. On Memorial ID 4402****, Children incorrectly listed as Siblings: Children: Mary Hosea, 4402****; Thomas Hosea Jr., 4402****; James Hosea, 4402****; Margaret W. Hosea, 4402****; Helen Katherine Hosea Rash, 4480****. On Memorial ID 4402****, Spouse 4402****, incorrectly listed as Child. Dates on Indiana, Death certificate, attached to 4402****, and county health record, does not correspond with dates on headstone. Upon the signing of the death certificate, local authorities will typically issue a certificate of disposition of remains, also known as a burial permit. Contributor: Rob Seifman (4841****) and Ancestry.com paying customer. On September 8, 2020, received the following email from Ms. Clemons: I don’t remember this but I always recommend requests be put in one at a time by the person making requests. For example children have to have mother and father added to each individual child. You can do that and submit your changes to FAG. I suggest you do as many as you can to eliminate errors. It is the responsibility of Ms.Clemons to preserve the memorials in her care from decline in quality when notified by a customer of numerous errors. I

I’d like to know about my uncle’s memorial.

Apparently, there were two memorials made for my Uncle, Lorn Draves...mine and someone else. Instead of contacting either of us, mine got deleted and has been turned over to Find A Grave management. Id really like to have it back, since he was my favorite uncle. Please help me.

You are not allowed to add a duplicate, you need to read the rules. You make ask the owner to transfer it to you and 50/50 they will comply since you are not in his direct family

They won't reply to my message.

Someone posted an incorrect picture at my uncle's page. The message to the person who posted it went unanswered, so then I messaged Find a Grave. They also have not responded.

User's recommendation: Don't bother to try to get customer service from Find a Grave.

Strangers create memorials without family approval

I have been researching genealogy for over 20 years. The information available via Find a Grave is usually in Ancestry. My family is upset because my relatives' (including my father and brother) private family cemetery, located on private property (we have the deed) and owned by the family for almost 100 years was entered by a stranger without permission. This person is an author who lives in another state. She photographed the headstones and created memorials. She even listed my very alive mother as deceased because her name is on a double headstone with my dad. Then, she ignored requests to transfer those memorials from various family members. Find A Grave will not intervene on all of the memorials because aunts, uncles, and cousins are not within 4 degrees of relationship. She is a stranger who committed a crime to access the cemetery! She has thousands of memorials. I doubt she is related to many of them. I grew up with these people and loved them. Find a Grave should require memorials to only be created by a family member.

User's recommendation: Complain and Keep Complaining.

This is so true. I am sorry that this has happened to you, Brenda.

I have had the same woman persistently taking my memorials, people who are directly related to me and managing them, adding to her bio that she accepted to care for the memorials. That's a lie, no one said she could accept care. They should ask for permission. I really liked Find a Grave.

This happened once before with the same woman, so I deleted my account and started a new one, adding my memorials again and it has happened again. Hopefully, things get resolved for both you and me.

They did the same to my mothers headstone. Took a picture without consent and put it online.

My mothers burial was private and we even kept obituary offline. These *** come along and take a picture and put it online. That is an invasion of privacy.

So now I keep watching to see if they do it again. I will take legal action.

@PissedConsumer1935020

They do not need consent to post your family photos as long as they took the photos. If you do not own the property then it is called public domain. The AG ruled this, one does not own a grave and the owner may or may not delete it.

Find A Grave information on memorials can not be trusted as truth.

I agree with the statement above in reference to Mary E. Payne and BlueJay. I am retired from the Smithsonian Institute with a Masters Degree in DNA Analysis. I am Mr. Kidd (who wrote the item above) second cousin on his fathers side. BlueJay states that my grandparents (Robert and Sarah Kidd) lived in a small town south of Louisville because she has a census that shows it. What she is not aware of is that anyone that is at that address on April 1st and staying for a month or so (reguardless if they own a home someplace else) is counted at the residence they were at on April 1st. My grandparents were staying at my fathers home with us because my mother was gravely ill and my dad needed some extra help. Their main and permanent residency was in East Bernstadt Ky. It is incorrect information like this that Find A Grave allows to go on that makes the sight very unreliable in its information. Other information that Mary E. Payne had been a supposed account of one of our relatives traveling across Cumberland Gap in the mid to late1800s and seeing Daniel Boone's initials carved in a tree. Having worked for years with the Smithsonian I find this hard to believe as 1) Any such historical relic of that type would have been removed long ago and 2) It has been long told that this legend as a myth as no such carvings has ever been established. The best family research sites around are 1) Ancestory 2) MyHeritage and 3)FamilySearch. But even with these sites, it is important to double check any information you find and then, double check it again. I can not begin to tell you how many complaints I have heard over the years concerning Find A Grave. As stated above, BEWARE!

User's recommendation: BEWARE! There are other more reliable websites.

Refusal of memorial transfer

I am a direct line of a memorial on Find a Grave, I created a memorial of this person added bio, family members, exact D/O/B etc. After creating this memorial I saw that another person had created a memorial on this person under incorrect spelling and info that was not "fit" for a deceased person. I asked for transfer, was never answered by the individual that "owned" the memorial. Then I noticed that my memorial was tagged as a duplicate and Find a Grave transferred my memorial bio, pictures, family members and corrected info over to the individual that I asked transfer from. Now she has this memorial (she "owns" it because her grandfather line murdered my line). Find a Grave thinks this is appropriate!? Family members should be allowed to manage family members. I would like memorial ID# 16790**** transferred to me. This memorial is in my city, her mother is the sister to my gr gr grandmother and is not related to the individual that is now managing. I am really upset that my hard work and bio is now in the ownership of a non family member. My contributor ID is 4865****, Theresa Casler Dutton

User's recommendation: Do not trust litigation from Find a Grave.

I have the same unanswered complaints!! Have numerous direct family memorials that have a lot of incorrect information.

All “owned” by a 6th time removed cousin. I have been requesting transfers for almost a year and ALL have gone unanswered. Have sent numerous emails to findagrave with 0 replies!! I did manage to track down this cousin thru Facebook.

She responded with “I have been traveling this year and can’t use up my data.

It will have to wait until Spring of next year!” NOT ACCEPTABLE!! I am trying to “clean up” those memorials for printing and addition to a genealogy book for an upcoming reunion.

#1910685

That is awful and very disturbing practices. I don't like how these people are able to keep these memorials, have wrong info, many won't transfer either!

Very irritating! I recently found quite a few relatives on my mom's side, a link led to FA_ and so much of the info was wrong. I have their ancestral history and info, so I know the info was wrong. Back then many had the same names and migrated to the US so they take people with those names and erroneously list them as relatives.

SMH.

They should have it where users can name a person, give info on the grave site etc, however, when a relative knows the correct history and info, they can correct the info, and of course become the rightful owner! ~ Karla K.

Wasn't able to log in to my original Find a Grave account

Because I have a new email address, I was not able to log into my supposed current acct at tomvcl@***.com That acct no longer exists. There's no way I could log in to update my acct with the new email address of geefwiz456@***.com Now I've had to create a new acct with you in order to send this note. ... and of course have lost all my memorials, etc. Is there any way I can salvage my original account? i.e. the memorials and photos of family members that I had entered in to Find a Grave? Thanks, Tom VanCleve
